Rehab can be overwhelming with tons of misinformation out there. On your discovery call and first assessment, you'll leave knowing the important details are handled. Every question answered, your car packed to start the journey.
Early wins in rehab are crucial. It's imperative we restore full range of motion and clear swelling as soon as possible. Landing this win early sets us up for success — the sooner we get it, the quicker we can load the knee joint and begin running.
Our rehab membership gives you unlimited access to our facility at a price that won't break the bank. These Rehab Gyms let you rehab five days per week — incredible outcomes, getting you back to the sport you love, faster. You can jump straight in right after surgery.
At most clinics, once you reach this stage you're referred elsewhere for mid-stage rehab. At ORKA, you'll have met your strength coach in your first week — a smooth transition where you feel beyond comfortable. No new systems to learn. The only thing that changes is your coach and programming.
Recovery is just as important as training. Everyone in our rehab membership gets unlimited access to our Recovery Room powered by Hyperice — Normatec Boots, Hypervolt Recovery Gun, and the Hyperice X Contrast Device. A key piece to maintaining a robust training volume.
This is where things get exciting. You'll have gone through rehab runs and field sessions, and your full return-to-sport block is complete. We communicate every aspect of your rehab to your sport coaches for a smooth transition — including routine neuromuscular testing to ensure you're performing at your best.
At ORKA Performance we have developed a 5 stage rehabilitation pathway that ensures you are successful at every stage. Our system has been developed to tackle every key performance indicator that is found in your testing during every block in our rehab system.
The Foundation Phase is arguably the most important phase in rehabilitation. Here we lay the foundation for the rest of the rehabilitation process, with restoration of ranges of motion, motor control, key muscle activation, and reducing pain/swelling while primary tissue healing taking place. Restoring functional patterns like walking, squatting, lunging, hinging, pushing, pulling or rotating at the hip/shoulder allow us to work towards proper loading patterns in Phase 2. Tools like surface EMG, accelerometers, inclinometers and dual force plates allow us to evaluate muscle recruitment, even weightbearing and loading, and ranges of motion.
During the Tissue Integration Phase, we focus on restoring muscle mass lost due to immobilization, pain or swelling. This muscle mass creates the groundwork and structure for force production in Phase 3. If returning to running, we evaluate your progress against our Return to Run Criteria at the phase's conclusion. We can lose muscle mass due to injury, but we also can lose our technical capabilities with our shapes/postures of sport. With this at top of mind, all drills are linked to the High Intensity Actions of your sport, allowing us to replicate ranges of motion and key joint positions you'll encounter later on during your end stage rehab and return, giving your brain/body more time to refine these key motor patterns.
The Strength Capacity Phase is all about force production. We begin to implement framework for acceleration, max velocity and Speed, or in the upper body, key sporting tasks like pushing/pulling and throwing. Under the guidance of the performance physiotherapy and strength and conditioning team, we focus on developing maximum strength, incorporating linear runs, and progressing to off-line evasion and change of direction drills when safe. Members of the Sports Rehabilitation Membership retain access to both Rehab Gyms and On Field Rehabilitation session. Athletes in the youth, collegiate, semi-pro, or professional category enter the ORKA Performance Program, while others may transition to the Performance Arm of the Sports Rehabilitation Membership.
The Transition to Chaos Phase is a really exciting block for our athletes. This is where we see a return to aspects of technical training. Now that we can produce force, it's about can we produce that force in the right direction, at the right time. We call this rate of force development, and this is a key aspect of returning to peak performance post injury. Power development is the focus in Phase 4, and we begin exposures on the control to chaos continuum, adding in aspects like reactivity, and response to different stimulus / cues (auditory, visual, pattern recognition, anticipation), all facets we encounter on the ice, field, court, snow etc. We work closely with your technical coaches to ensure you are progressed through a 3-Level graded return to technical drills pathway, reducing the risk of pain/flare ups, and keeping you integrated as you return to what you love most.
We've reached the culmination of your rehab journey at ORKA Performance. In this phase, we transition back to full-capacity training, preparing for a complete return to sport upon clearance from your comprehensive performance testing framework in the sports science lab. This stage focuses on education, load/volume management, maintaining progress, and regular neuromuscular testing to monitor crucial aspects, and reducing risk of re-injury. We work closely with your sporting technical coaches to communicate the expectations in terms of minutes and gradual exposure to your task, to ensure we not only return you to sport, but we return you to performance.
Discover why so many athletes are taking advantage of the rehab membership. We took a professional sporting organization's rehabilitation program and brought it to the private sector of sport. Outcomes are the heart of our business.
